Blue Devils One Step Closer to ECOL Title
H.S. Basketball:
River View 51 Zanesville 66
It wasn’t always pretty, but in the end, it was another win for the Zanesville Blue Devils. Despite an effort that wasn’t up to Coach Scott Aronhalt’s standards, the Blue Devils won handsomely over a River View team that is starting to figure things out for coach Jason Trout. The win moves Zanesville to 10-1 in the ECOL, and with just two league games left, Zanesville can do no worse than tie for the ECOL Scarlet title.
The leading scorer for the Blue Devils was Kade Haddox, the senior putting together his second straight 20 point contest in the win. Tomas Wibbeler had 13 points, while Jake Phillis contributed 12. Zanesville ssenior captain Christian Meyers left the game in the second quarter with a mild ankle injury and did not return. Coach Aronhalt hopes to have Meyers back for the weekend’s contests at home against Dover, and at DeSales.
River View’s Jason Hammond had 21 points in the loss, a game high. Michael Adams the only other Black bear in double figures with 14 points. River View took just 28 shots the entire game, going 10/14 from two point range, and 7/14 from three point territory.
Rosecrans 77 West Muskingum 40
Getting off to a fast start in any game is key, but the Bishops have done that in back to back games which again allowed them to cruise to an easy win. Rosecrans, who have a tough game against Coshocton on Friday, got 16 first half points from Ian Durrant enroute to the victory. Durrant was 4/5 from behind the arc in the first half which helped pace the Bishop offense.
Aaron Parry lead the way with 21 points for Rosecrans while Zak Kirkbride chipped in with 18 and Zack Hill added 10. The Bishops shot 47 free throws in the game that allowed them to score more than 20 of their points. West Muskingum was paced by Nick Groves who had 13 points.
