Bob Ney Addresses Rotary

The Zanesville Noon Rotary Club welcomed a special guest to its weekly meeting Tuesday afternoon.

Former U.S Congressman, Bob Ney of Newark, addressed the club to talk about life after congress, and his new book, “Sideswiped.” After spending 17 months in prison on federal corruption charges, Ney told us his book puts a spotlight on his involvement with the Jack Abramoff scandal.

“I did some things that I shouldn’t have done, I didn’t report some meals, and under-reported a trip, and the end result was I was in a plea deal, and I spent 17 months, which was eye-opening, in incarceration, never thought I would go from the halls of Congress to the walls of a prison, but I did and learned a lot out of that,” Ney said.

Ney told us the most important thing he has learned after spending time in prison, is to always do the right thing when no one is looking. After overcoming many obstacles in his life, he said he hopes to inspire others to do the same.

“The advice I give in the book is pretty clear, I don’t care whether you’re in Congress, I don’t care if you’re a news reporter, whether you’re working in a restaurant, whatever you’re doing in your life if something doesn’t look right, if it doesn’t feel right, if you think you’re about to cross a bright line of any type, just don’t do it,” Ney said.

Ney is currently working as a political analyst for Talk Radio News. You can find his book, “Sideswiped” on Amazon.com.
