Boil advisory lifted in Dresden

DRESDEN, Ohio- The boil advisory in the Village of Dresden has officially been lifted.
The contamination was the result of a water main break on the side of State Route 60 near the 9th Street intersection. Sampling tests had to be completed before the advisory could be lifted.
“When you lose pressure on the system the EPA requires then that you have to provide a clean sample of water before it’s drinkable, potable water, and once we were back on and had the system back up and running then our water superintendent took a sample to the lab we use in Coshocton,” said David Matthew, Mayor of Dresden.
After submitting the clean samples a 24-hour precautionary time period must pass before the boil advisory can be lifted, according to Matthew. The split was approximately 10 feet long so 20 feet of the 10-inch pipe was replaced. Matthew said the break was a result of excess wear and tear.

“You know the system was put in 1905-1906 so it’s aged,” said Matthew. “Then they built a highway over top of it and we kind of think there’s just a couple things; where the reservoir comes off the hill at a steep rate and then flattens out, so it gets a lot of wear there, and then vibration from the highway is kind of giving us problems so we’re trying to stay ahead of it.”
Matthew thanked the Dresden community for their patience.
