Bomb Squad Called to University Inn

Newark Police said the Columbus Bomb Squad was called in to assist in an incident at the University Inn on West Church Street.

Authorities said at midnight, Wednesday a disturbance was reported and possible shots fired. When officers arrived they found a person that had been assaulted, but refused treatment.

While investigating officers discovered suspected counterfeit money in the room and outside parking lot. They also found a truck which had been reported stolen from Zanesville.

Police said the shots fired actually came from the discharge of a flare gun which was located nearby along with materials believed to be either explosive or incendiary.

The Columbus Bomb Squad examined and collected the materials, a male and female were arrested at the scene. The incident is still under investigation and will be presented for charges.
