Boxing for Kids
Boxing championships are coming to Zanesville…
The Police Athletic League will host the Zanesville Mayor’s Cup Boxing Championship. The non-profit group raises money to help support efforts to keep kids off the streets. The Vice President of the Zanesville Police Athletic League, Tim Hartmeyer said, if you give kids an outlet their future will become much brighter.
"Most of the time they feel you can get kids off the streets and provide quality time to do something," said Hatmeyer. "It will reduce the crime profiling in the entire community and that’s our goal."
Hartmeyer said, the Police Athletic League supports a variety of activities, including wrestling, karate and a youth leadership council. He said, the boxing championship gains a surprising amount of support from Zanesville’s Mayor.
"The Mayor, which is Howard Zwelling, used to box back in the day," said Hartmeyer.
Hartmeyer said, boxing used to be a big deal in Zanesville when the Mayor was a kid, and with his support it is making a come back. The Zanesville Mayor’s Cup Boxing Championship will be held on June 18th at Secrest Auditorium.
