Boy Scout Pinewood Derby

Start your engines… it is time for Boy Scout pack 121’s Pinewood Derby. Fifteen scout’s came to race their cars.

Each boy starts with a 3 ounce block of wood that has four wheels and axles. They have just one month to make their care before they race. The night before the race the cars are tested and it is made sure they do not weigh more than 5 ounces.

"It’s our best activity every year as far as the boys with excitement. They really look forward to it from the start " said Dan Riley, Chairman of Pack 121.

Grand parents, parents and friends came to cheer on the scouts. Each scout would race 41 times. They would receive points for what place they came in in each race and in the end the scout with most points wins a trophy.

"It’s a very good way for the boys and their families to get together and that is one of the reasons why we make a premium of doing this every year " said Riley.

Though the scouts can be competitive everyone is considered a winner. There is even a trophy for slowest car.
