Boy Scouts will sell peanuts for camp funds

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – February 8, 1910 the Boy Scouts of America were founded and on February 8, 2018 they’re informing the community on how to help the boy scouts fund their camp admittance.

Muskingum Valley Council Boy Scouts of America’s Field Director, Jeff Pickett announced there are over 85 Cub Scout packs, Boy Scout troops, Venturing crews, and Explorer Posts in the District and all will start selling Peanuts on March 1, 2018.

“We’re really excited to roll out our annual peanut sale, it’s a great way during the month of March for scouts to get out and earn their own way towards camp,” Pickett said. “We’ve got 12 different offerings in the different kinds of nuts folks can get from chocolate covered peanuts, to basic peanuts, to peanut butter power mix.”

Boy Scouts of America has many camps planned for this summer including five weeks of boy scout camp, two sessions of cub scout resident camps, and three different cub scout day camps. Pickett said peanut sales really helps the scouts family financially as well as emotionally.

“When scouts earn their own way it gives them such a feeling of self-worth, a feeling of accomplishment, that they don’t get in a lot of other areas,” Pickett said. “When they go to camp and they know that they’ve had a big contribution in what they’re doing and what they’re learning. The excitement that they get to have from all the different camp activities. You know it’s just something that really helps build up what we’re about, which is building character and building good people for the future.”

The Boy Scouts of America are also allowing people to purchase peanuts to be sent to our military troops.

“Basically you make a donation and then the peanut company gathers all the stuff and works with the United Service Organizations and sends these peanuts out to our servicemen a little taste of home,” said Pickett.

Peanut sales run throughout the month of March and finalize on April 2nd. For anyone who wants more information on this fundraiser may call the Muskingum Valley Council Boy Scouts of America office at (740) 453-0517 or visit their website.
