Brighton Boulevard Fire Engulfs Home, No Injuries Reported
ZANESVILLE, OH – On the snowy morning of December 11th, 2024, a structure fire on Brighton Boulevard in Zanesville kept first responders busy. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
At approximately 8:20 A.M., the Zanesville Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire. Upon arrival, the structure was already fully engulfed in flames. Adding to the difficulty, a vehicle ran over the fire hose, creating complications for firefighters on the scene.
“There was a little bit of trouble trying to get water supply up the alley. We had one individual run over our fire hose and get stuck on it, which made it really tough. But we got water established, we got the fire knocked down, and we ordered emergency demolition on it,” Zanesville Fire Department Assistant Chief Doug Hobson said.
The house, which was reportedly occupied by homeless individuals, suffered extensive damage. While the cause of the fire remains under investigations, there is speculation that it may have been started by a warming fire.
“In the last week and a half, we’ve had a couple of these that are vacant homes. Until I get in further and dig it out, I’m going to guess right off the bat it was a warming fire. This home has no electric to it. We’re going to assume with homeless living in it, that it was probably a warming fire in the basement. When we arrived, the entire basement was engulfed and now the floor and the roof line have collapsed,” Hobson said.
On-site responders included the Zanesville Police Department, Genesis Community Ambulance, and Falls Township Fire Department.
