Buckeyes dismantle Terrapins as top-ranked teams fall

College Park, Maryland – J.T. Barrett accounted for four touchdowns and Ohio State scored 62 points for the second consecutive week by routing Maryland, 62-3, at Maryland Stadium.

Barrett tossed for two touchdown passes and rushed for two more in the winning effort. The Buckeyes (5-1, 9-1) scored five rushing touchdowns, including a pair of scores from Curtis Samuel. The junior also hauled in a receiving touchdown.

Ohio State out-gained the Terrapins 581-176 with the Buckeye defense forcing a pair of Maryland turnovers.

The #5 Buckeyes are sure to skyrocket up the latest set of College Football Playoff rankings after a crazy Saturday that saw three of the top four teams suffer upset losses.

  • Second-ranked Clemson dropped a one-point decision to Pitt, 43-42. Panther kicker Chris Blewitt drilled a 48-yard kick with six seconds remaining.
  • Third-ranked Michigan also lost by a single point with a 14-13 loss to the Iowa Hawkeyes. Iowa kicker Keith Duncan was true from 33 yards out as time expired.
  • Fourth-ranked Washington fell to #20 Southern California, 26-13. The Trojans out-gained the Huskies 400-276.

Ohio State now prepares to visit East Lansing, Michigan for a showdown with Zanesville alumnus Mark Dantonio’s Michigan State Spartans on Nov. 19. Michigan State (1-6, 3-7) snapped a seven-game losing streak with an easy win over Rutgers, 49-0.
