THORN TOWNSHIP, Ohio--The Ohio State Highway Patrol said eight students are being transported to area hospitals after a school bus crash near Thornville.

According to the Lancaster Post, around 7:30 a.m. Thursday, a Northern Local School District bus with 25 students aboard overturned after a crash with another vehicle near the intersection of S.R. 204 and S.R. 13.

Authorities said the bus, driven by 74-year-old Danny Hupp of Brownsville, was travelling north on SR 13 when a vehicle , driven by 42-year-old Joseph Thornton, travelling east on SR 204, failed to stop at the red light and was struck by the bus.

Troopers said the bus driver and eight students on the bus were injured in the crash, but none are considered life threatening.

Thornton was transported to Mt Carmel East in Columbus with serious injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
