A C-47 plane from WWII

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- People were allowed to tour a plane built during World War Two at the WWII traveling memorial August 26th.
The Douglas C-47 flew from Michigan to allow the public to see the inside of a plane that was built in April of 1945. Press writer for C-47, Heide Otto, said C-47’s were originally used commercially and theses planes changed the way people flew.
“It was the first time that you could fly in an airplane that didn’t require refueling every five hours,” said Otto. “This plane you could fly for eight. Once World War Two hit, every available plane was pulled into service. The planes were pulled out of commercial use and redeveloped for military use.”
Although this plane never saw combat, planes exactly like this one were used during World War Two. These planes had several uses including shipping supplies, carrying troops, and could carry two jeeps inside it.
“The unique thing about it (the model of the plane) is because of it’s design it could land on a shorter runway,” said Otto. “It was used frequently during the Berlin airlift for dropping supplies to the Germans who were trapped in Berlin after WWII. It saved their lives.”
