Car Show to Benefit Local Fire Department

The Wayne Township Fire Department held its annual car show Sept. 6.

More than 200 cars were on display. Everything from 50’s style mobiles to new modified wagons were in the running to be awarded best in show. The fire department also had raffles and a concession stand and all the funds raised will benefit the local department.

“You’re always needing something, updating something so this is one of our fundraisers we have for new equipment to repair old,” said Assistant Chief Steve Farus. “Such as jaws of life. You’re always needing more more up to date equipment so that’s what that is used for is just to keep all of our equipment top notch and up to shape.”

The community came out to support the fire fighters in their fundraiser and a chance to see the multitude of wheels. Farus said that other than bingo held every other Monday, this is how they fund their department. He explained why it’s so important to stay well-equipped.

“When you get out on a run you want all your equipment to be 100 percent efficient,” said Farus.

Winners were awarded specially made trophies. The department makes unique pieces each year for the event.
