Careytown Preschool Teacher Pleads Guilty to Rape

A CareyTown preschool teacher appeared in Muskingum County Common Pleas Court Wednesday on multiple charges including rape.  The Muskingum County Prosecutor’s office says 32-year old Derek Shaffer pled guilty two counts of Rape, two counts of Kidnapping, three counts of Gross Sexual Imposition and one count of Pandering Obscenity. Shaffer faces life in prison without the possibility of parole. Shaffer was arrested on August 9th after Zanesville Police say a family member reported an incident to police that resulted into an investigation into Shaffer.  Shaffer had been an employee of the CareyTown Preschool for 10 years.  Judge Mark Fleegle ordered a pre-sentence investigation continued Shaffer’s bond at $1,000,000.
