Carl E. Retherford (March 11, 1915 – August 11, 2011)

Carl E. Retherford, 96, of Zanesville, passed away at 12:50 PM Thursday August 11, 2011 at Genesis Morrison House Hospice.
He was born March 11, 1915 in Newark, Ohio the son of the late John R. and Gertrude E. Markham Retherford. He was a 1932 Newark High School graduate and played on several baseball leagues as a youth. Carl was an Army Veteran of WWII where he received the Silver Star and Purple Heart while serving in Germany. Carl retired in 1982 as purchasing agent for Buckeye Supply after 30 years. He enjoyed landscaping his yard and watching Ohio State sports especially baseball.
Surviving Carl are his son: Carl “Ed” (Andrea) Retherford of Nashport, daughter: Suzanne (Jim) Wycoff of Cincinnati, grandchildren: James (Stacie) Retherford, John (Jodi) Retherford and Karen (Adam) West, great grandchildren: Rebecca, Emma, Michael John, Daniel, Titus, Stephen and Luke and sister-in-law: Ruth Jones of Newark.
Preceding him in death were his parents, wife: Pauline Retherford who died 3/9/2010, sister: Helen Heisler, brothers: Harold and Paul Retherford, sisters-in-law: Bernice Retherford and Esther Retherford.
Visitation for Carl will be 2:00 – 4:00 Sunday August 14, 2011 at Bryan & Snider Funeral Home 2318 Maple Ave where funeral services will be Monday August 15, 2011 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Christopher Riggs officiating. Committal service will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
