God gained a very talented artist and craftsman, Carl Lee Wickham 79 of Cumberland passed away on September 10, 2025 at home, where he so wanted to be, with family by his side.
He was born in Zanesville on July 21, 1946. Son of the late Ivan Lee and Pauline (Schoeppner) Wickham. Carl attended Brookfield and Belle Valley schools and graduated with the class of 1965 from Shenandoah High School. He married his longtime sweetheart and love of his life, Sandra (Sandy Bailey) Wickham, on May 4th, 1968. He served in the US Army was a field radio mechanic and command track driver from 1968 to 1970 in Augsburg, Germany. Upon returning home, he worked as a carpenter with his father, then at Philo power plant, and in 1972 he went to work at Central Ohio Coal Company and worked for 35 ½ years mostly as a welder. He retired in 1997 and enjoyed collecting and restoring tractors and engines, collecting old tools and equipment, researching the genealogy of all his family, especially their services in all the wars including 3 great great grandfathers and 5 great great uncles in the civil war to name a few. This inspired his love of history and especially civil war history. On a special trip he was able to place a flag on his great great grandfather’s grave at Chattanooga National Cemetery that was killed at Missionary Ridge. He loved gardening and yard work and was so talented in working with wood, carving, welding, and machinist creating. He made 1/8-inch scale civil war models that he enjoyed showing at several locations in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Zanesville, Caldwell and for many years were featured at the Salt Forks Arts and Crafts Festival in Cambridge. He could make almost anything and loved sharing about how to do it. Most of all, he was so proud of his Family and loved mentoring and spending time with his precious grandchildren and instilling his love of history in them. Carl was a member and Deacon at Ark Spring Baptist Church, and served as a Trustee there and also a Cemetery Trustee. He was a member of United Mine Workers of American Local 1604, Southeastern Ohio Civil War Roundtable of Cambridge, Point Pleasant Masonic Lodge, Scottish-Rite, Cambridge, Ohio Historical Society, Ohio Tool Collectors Association, Mid-west Tool Collectors Association, Early American Industries Association, Corn Item Collector Association, Farm Bureau, Old Iron Power Club, and was a founding member and long time officer at Freeland Valley Antique Power Club. He coached several baseball teams at Cumberland over the years. He enjoyed some traveling and finding new Antique stores, but he loved just being home in his garage as he wouldn’t hesitate to tell you.
