Jackson Carmen Anita Photo

Carmen Anita Jackson, of Canton, formerly of Zanesville, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her entire family, Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Brookedale of Canton. She was born on May 1944 in Kingsport, Tennessee. Carmen passed away leaving behind a legacy of quiet strength, deep love, and unwavering devotion to her family.

Carmen was a private and thoughtful woman, someone who valued peace, independence, and the comfort of her own space. Though she kept much of her life close to her heart, her love for her children was always clear and constant. They were the center of her world and the source of her greatest pride.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gerald (Gary) L. Jackson; her parents, James E. Greenway and Minnie Burnette Greenway; and her sister, Leona Fox.

Carmen is survived by her children — Renee Jackson-Dumas, Cheryl Strain (and her husband Kevin Strain), Todd Jackson (and his wife Dee Jackson), and Stephanie Staunton (and her husband Thorne Staunton) — who will forever carry her memory with them.

She was also blessed with nine grandchildren: Brandon Dumas, Davian Jackson, Maurice Turner, Sheena Jackson, Davontae Jackson, Darien Jackson, Chantalle Walker, Richard Patterson, and Romello Patterson. Her family continues to grow through her nine great grandchildren, each one a reflection of the love and legacy she leaves behind.
A woman of faith, Carmen was a devoted member of Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Temple in Hampton, Virginia, under the leadership of Pastor Jerome A. Barber. Her quiet commitment to her church community was an important part of her life and a source of strength and comfort.

Carmen’s life was defined not by outward recognition, but by the steady, enduring love she offered to those she cherished most. Her family will remember her gentle spirit, her resilience, and the quiet ways she showed her care.

Per Carmen’s wishes a caring cremation will take place. To sign the online guestbook or leave a personal note of condolence please visit wwwhilliscombsfh.com.
