Carrel Reacts to Responsible Ohio’s Visit
Responsible Ohio made its stop in Zanesville on Tuesday and now CEO of Muskingum Behavioral Health Steve Carrel is reminding voters to stay informed of all the facts.
Carrel said that while Issue 3 supporters do raise awareness about the positives that legal marijuana could bring to the buckeye state, the length of the constitutional amendment alone makes him wonder what could be hiding in the fine print.
“My big concerns are, number one, it’s a constitutional amendment,” said Carrel. “So if we find out in five years this was a bad thing, it’s next to impossible to change a constitutional amendment. Issue 3 constitutional amendment has more pages than the whole constitution for the state of Ohio. There’s a whole lot buried. The devil’s in the details and there’s probably things that haven’t been discovered yet.”
Carrel recognizes that it’s the right of every voter to make their own decisions about the issue on the upcoming November ballot. He just urges that each go to the voting box with all the facts before changing the constitution.
“That’s their god given right by the constitution of the United States is they have the right to vote,” said Carrel. “Everybody has the right to vote yes or now however they feel. What I ask people to do is go in informed. I tell every voter this: I don’t care what the issue is or what the office is they’re voting for. Go in informed. Don’t vote emotion. Vote what you know are facts.”
Carrel simply said he hopes between now and November, voters reach out for information about the issue before casting their vote this fall.
