Cars in the Cold
Not only is there an increase in accidents in the winter, there is also an increase in car problems. One maybe that your car just won’t start.
"The coolant is a main problem in the winter also batteries are affected in the cold weather and air pressure as well" Assistant Store Manager, Daniel Gibbs.
These issues can be prevented by having your battery and coolant tested. Though in extreme temperatures there can be ice under the hood and starting the engine will cause damage.
"If the coolant freezes it can you know cause your engine to crack even your radiator things like that " explains Gibbs.
The colder it gets the more issues a car can have.
"Once it gets so cold the battery doesn’t have the power to turn the engine over " said Gibbs.
In the winter you want to make sure there is at least a 1/4 tank of gas in your car otherwise it could freeze but one of the most importantly check the tread on your tires.
"The water will sink to the bottom of the tank when the gas gets low in the tank then there is water at the bottom and that can freeze up the fuel pump" Said Gibbs.
You can add dry gas to the tank to try to dry up the water that freezes and it is suggested to replace your fuel filter once a year.
