Cat Reunited with Owner Thanks to Microchip

ZANESVILLE, OH- The Animal Shelter Society here in Zanesville isn’t just in the business of adoptions but also reunions.

April Gibson, the Executive Director, said back in February a good Samaritan brought what they thought was a stray cat into the Shelter for some much needed warmth.

Gibson said upon their initial intake of the cat, affectionately named ‘Cinnamon’, they found she had a military ID microchip.

This weekend, the cat formerly known as Cinnamon, was identified as Liyla and happily reunited with her owner Abby Cox.

“My sister was deployed in Poland and she had this cat sent for her, and I was just holding her until she got home. Then I just kind of fell in love with her, a lot, and I just kept her.” Cox said. “It didn’t feel real at first because I never thought I would see her again, l almost renewed my lease in my apartment just in case she came back. But it feels so incredible, it feels like a miracle.”

Gibson said Liyla’s case serves as the perfect reason to microchip pets.

She said in honor of this sweet reunion, starting on April 1st and going until the end of the month, all microchips will be $12.

“It’s the importance of getting these animals back to their families and the families back to these animals I think are very important. We’re not just an adoption facility that’s been in place since 1959.” Gibson said. “We’re here to help our animals in our community, so they have good lives, and the families are able to have a good life because of them. Liyla gives Abigail such great joy, and that’s what it’s all about.”

If you are interested in microchipping your pet, you can reach out to the Animal Shelter Society to set up an appointment or for more information.
