Cathleen Dew

It is with deep sadness we announce that Cathleen Ann Dew, 74, of Nashport, Ohio has passed peacefully at her home on Wednesday, March 26, 2025. She was born on December 14, 1950, in Zanesville, Ohio and was the daughter of James R. Cavanaugh and Betty J. Durant Cavanaugh. She graduated from Philo High School and attended The Ohio State University.
Cathleen retired as Corporate Treasurer of Paul Contracting Company. She spent many years serving at St. Nicholas and St. Mary’s Catholic Churches, including singing in the Choir and devoting her time to the card ministry. Cathleen loved to read with her beloved dog Benny on her lap. Her love for animals radiated in the gentle way she cared for every creature.
Cathleen was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She is known for her unwavering love and generosity; she touched the lives of all that knew her. Cathleen devoted herself to her family, always putting their needs first and creating a warm, nurturing home filled with laughter and kindness. Her caring spirit and selfless nature will be remembered by many, and her legacy of love will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
She is survived by one daughter, Amy (Paul Schnell) Bjornstad; one son, Curtiss (Stephanie) Dew; three grandchildren, Bryson Bjornstad, Valerie Bjornstad and Melanie Bjornstad; three step grandchildren, Soren Genot, Chase Genot, Aryelle Genot, two step great-grandchildren Laine Crawford and Alexander Crawford; one brother Patrick (Beate) Cavanaugh; one sister Cora Irene “Correne” (James) Wade; two nephews, Matthew (Devon) Cavanaugh and James (Emma) Wade and one niece Emily Wade (Jamie Rinaldi); and numerous great grand nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Thomas E. Dew, her parents, and niece Christina Cavanaugh.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, April 5, 2025, at the St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 925 E Main St, Zanesville, Ohio with Fr. Stephen Ondrey as celebrant. Burial will be at Mt. Olive Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at Bryan Place, 49 N 6th St Zanesville, Ohio.
