Celebrate New Concord brings a summer concert series to a local village.

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – For over 20 years, a non-profit called Celebrate New Concord has been bringing a summer concerts to the New Concords War Memorial Park.

The next concert in this years summer line-up is Sheryl Wise and Company who will be performing songs from musical theater classics like The Sound of Music. This concert is part of a series that has shown a variety of styles and genres that allows people to expand their musical tastes.

“I teach music at Muskingum [University] and I know a lot about music but I’m learning. I learn when I come here and the different genres like bluegrass and country. We had a country artist a couple of weeks ago,” David Turrill said.

Both Turrill and Jennifer Lyle have served on the committee for Celebrate New Concord for several years and what drives them to keep the series going is the sense of community it creates. Local residence of all ages have been coming together to enjoy music and free pizza supplied by Wally’s Pizza.

“My most favorite part are the concerts themselves with everybody gathering and enjoying the music and talking to each other and coming together as a community for something that everybody is enjoying,” Lyle said.
