Census Hiring Skilled Workers Locally
The tough economy is causing many to lose their jobs, but allowing for the U.S. Census Bureau to have a highly skilled and educated work force.
Julie Metzger of the Muskingum County Opportunity Center said that holds true for Southeastern Ohio.
"She was very pleased with the quality of the people that were coming in and testing," said Metzger. "They do have a testing process that they go through. The actual test only takes about 30 minutes, but there is additional paperwork that need to be filled out."
The census is bringing about 95 jobs to the area and there are still some available. But, Metzger says to apply quickly because the jobs are filling up.
"The classes are picking up since the first of January," Metzger said. "She’s been doing a couple sessions a week here. We’ve had some during the day and some in the evening to try and catch people at different times."
There are about 25 enumerator positions still open.
Enumerators go door to door and interview the families who haven’t figured out their census forms.
