Center for Seniors Celebrate 50th Anniversary for the Senior Nutrition Program

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Today is the 50th Anniversary for the Senior Nutrition Program nationwide and the Zanesville Center for Seniors celebrated with activities and healthy meals.
Executive director at the Center for Seniors, Kate Paul, said today allowed them to connect more with their home delivery meal program and congregate meals available for the clients.
“I feel that not only getting a good meal, but also the ritualization that’s provided with that. You come in and get a meal, but you also have time to sit and chat with people, meet new people, and be a part of a community that you may not be getting at home,” Paul stated.
Muskingum County Commissioners helped pass out meals and were out and about in the community delivering meals to the homebound members.
During the celebration members enjoyed a healthy meal along with a live performance, arthritis exercise, line dances, zumba and more.
“What I’m hoping today is to raise awareness of our center, of the meal program that we have here and then also just enjoying the company of the seniors. And getting awareness out there that we are open, that we would like to see more faces and enjoy spending time with them,” Paul said.
Residents of the community who are 60 and older are able to stop into the center to get a meal for free or by donation.
They are also able to register as a member while attending for the meals and events. That way the staff can get familiar with everyone who comes into the center.
