Ceramic Art Show

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Zanesville’s well-known for its pottery, but now porcelain ceramics is starting to make its way in.
Ceramic Artist Alison Fawcett is preparing for her first solo exhibition, titled Inflorescence, in the Pioneer School Zanesville Clay Center. Fawcett’s opening reception is tomorrow from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
“I mainly focused on functional pottery for home and garden,” Fawcett said. “Just displaying food, flowers, and things that are a part of our daily lives. So it’s just kind of new exploration of that.”
Her focus in fine arts wasn’t always clear in college, originally Fawcett even thought about focusing on drawing or painting. After some influence that all changed.

“I always knew I wanted to do pottery, but I never really had focus, until I started looking at plant life-like flowers,” Fawcett said. “So that’s really become an inspiration for me and being here it’s been nice to have a new perspective.”
Fawcett recently graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor degree of Fine Arts. Following graduation she became a residential artist at P.S.Z. Clay Center and all the work on display is from her time in Zanesville.
“I look a lot at traditional pottery, but I want to put my own kind of twist on it and give it a kind of modern feel,” Fawcett said. “So this is kind of what has been accumulating from my time here and just kind of represents what I’ve been doing.”
The exhibition is at the Katherine Mitzel Gallery located at 952 East Main Street Zanesville. The Ceramic Exhibition will be open until September 16th. Gallery Hours are Fridays and Saturdays from 1:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. or by appointment. To schedule appointments email anf42095@gmail.com or call (330) 635-4755.
