Chalk on the Walk

East Muskingum students got the chance to show off their artistic abilities Saturday.

More than 100 kindergarten through eighth grade students entered to participate in the 27th annual "Chalk on the Walk" event at Larry W. Miller Intermediate School. It wasn’t your average art contest, as kids took to the sidewalk to draw their most creative pieces.

"Children are given a bucket of chalk and an hour to draw and anything they want to draw," said Principal, Anne Troendly. "It’s just to support the arts, arts are very important to East Muskingum Schools, and this is just another avenue for our kids to display their artwork.

All winners took home different prizes, from football tickets to art supplies. Eighth grader, Alayna Call, has participated in the contest every year and today her "Game of Thrones" inspired dragon won first place.

"My favorite part is just the art, because I just love doing art, it’s just really fun for me," Call said. "I drew a dragon, dragons are my favorite."

The community is invited to view the drawings over the weekend. The East Muskingum Student Endowment Fund, along with other sponsors, hosted the event.
