ZANESVILLE, OH – The Zanesville-Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce and other local entities came together to host a workforce summit.

The annual workforce summit was held at Zane State and is a collaboration between educators and industry. They all came together to discuss how business and educators can meet a common ground and prepare a skilled workforce in the future.

“We have education leaders, and we have business leaders as well. We’re hearing about collaboration programs where businesses are working with schools to create internships. We’re hearing from schools talking to other schools about how to create internships and co-op programs. It’s a very informative day for the workforce development of our future.” Zanesville-Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce President, Dana Matz said.

145 people from the southeastern Ohio region participated in the event to help discuss the development of a future workforce.

“What we know as the workplace today, is not going to be the workplace of ten, fifteen years from now. It used to be that if you talk for workforce development or career development for students, you’d talk to them maybe their junior year. Then it was pushed back to the eighth-grade year. And now, we’re seeing at the state level, this is taking place at career awareness at kindergarten levels.” Matz said.

The work summit plans to continue next year.
