Charles Hayer

Charles “Chuck” Franklin Hayer, 82, of Byesville, passed away Monday (December 8, 2025) at his home.
He was born August 15, 1943 in Mooresville NC, son of the late Robert E. Hayer and Willie Mae (McCraven) Hayer.
Chuck retired from ODOT in 2003, where he had worked as a driver. He was also a member of the Kimbolton Volunteer Fire Department and the Byesville Fire Department for many years.
Chuck was a US Army veteran and was awarded the Purple Heart for his service. He was also a member of the National Guard for over twenty years. He was a life member of the Byesville VFW Post 3760.
Chuck enjoyed hunting and fishing whenever he could. He was well-known as Byesville’s “unofficial trapper” by many.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Frank Johnson.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Teresa “Teri” (Larrick) Hayer, whom he married March 15, 1982; three sons, Mike Paisley of Cambridge, Carl (& Kelly) Garner of Salesville, and James (& Tonya) Paisley of Germany; a daughter, Joyce (& Don) Roffee of Cumberland; a sister, Tammy (& George) Helter of Kimbolton; eight grandchildren, Rachel, Sarah, Daniel, Levi, Katie, Alex, Kenzie, and Cory; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Friday (December 12, 2025) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville, where funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Evan. Mark Beros officiating.
Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Byesville, with military graveside honors conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
