Charles John Hopkins, Jr., age 77, passed away on July 24, 2024, surrounded by his loving family (after a long hard battle with illness over the recent years). Chuck was born to the late Charles John and Mae Eloise (Thrasher) Hopkins on March 20, 1947, in Garfield Heights, Ohio.

He attended St. Timothy School and was a graduate of Benedictine High School, Class of 1965. He served his country proudly as part of the Army Security Agency from 1968- 1972 where he flew reconnaissance missions with Chief Elgin Smith in Turkey, he also served in the Agency in Japan. During his service he earned the Good Conduct Medal, Army Commendation Medal with Oak leaf cluster, and the National Defense service medal. After his stint in the army, he came home to attend John Carroll University and graduated with a BA in Economics and Marketing in 1974 and went on to a career in Sales. Chuck was an active member of the BRC (Brooklyn Reformed Church) and served as the church assistant treasurer, a member of the church council, and a member of Pairs & Spares Fellowship club. He was also active in the community of Brooklyn as a member of the Brooklyn Booster Club and as School Board member and President of Brooklyn City Schools. He was also an avid supporter of all Cleveland Sports Teams (especially the Cleveland Indians baseball team). Over the years supporting them through thick and thin. Chuck also was an active ’Local Vocal’ sports fan of his kids endeavors and the past videographer of Brooklyn Football teams.  He enjoyed a good game of golf whenever possible and was very proud and freely shared his accomplishment of a ‘HOLE IN ONE’ at the Little Met Golf Course in the Cleveland Metroparks.

No matter what, Chuck loved and supported his family. He adored being front and center for all moments in their lives and was happiest in their company.

Chuck is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Joyce Sharon (Thrasher) Hopkins; their 4 children, Patrick Charles (Carolyn) Hopkins, Todd Louis (Jill) Hopkins, Douglas Andrew (Amanda) Hopkins and Meghan Kathleen (Kevin) Crum; 10 beloved grandchildren; Shane Louis, Kaitlyn Rae, Rachel Lynne, Elizabeth Joy, Will Patrick, Bryce Andrew, Sadie Mae Crum, Grace Cindy, Luke Robert Crum, and Molly Joy Crum; along with a lifetime of collected friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N Court Street, Medina, OH 44256 and again on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to his funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Chuck’s interment with military honors will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville, Ohio following the service.
