Cherry Valley Road Closed

The Newark Police Department announced that Cherry Valley Road at Reddington Road in Newark is closed to vehicle traffic at this time from State Route 16 in both directions. Firefighters say they are concerned about chemicals leaking into a creek after the semi crashed through a bridge guardrail and into the waterway. Newark Fire Chief Patrick Connor says hazardous materials crews are monitoring the water quality in Raccoon Creek because of concerns about three possible chemicals – phosphoric acid, diesel fuel and sulfuric acid – leaking from the truck. Connor says there were some concerns about dead fish being found at the crash site. A barrier has been set up to contain the fuel. He says people who live nearby do not draw water from the creek. The accident happened around 8:30 Tuesday morning and the road is expected to remain closed for at least 12 hours.
