Christ’s Table Partners Up with Jr. Fair Board for Stock the Trailer
ZANESVILLE, OH – The Muskingum County Fair is right around the corner which means it’s time to Stock the Trailer.
For the last four years, the Muskingum County Jr. Fair Board has partnered with Christ’s Table to host the Stock the Trailer food drive.
It’s a fun, statewide competition between the Jr. Fair Boards that allows kids a chance to get involved and give back to their community.
Jamie McConnell, an Educator in 4H Youth Development, says from 7AM to 1PM on Monday, August 11th, for just 4 cans of vegetables you can get into the Fair for free.
McConnell says there’s also a new way to donate food and help out some kids with their fair project all at the same time.
“One of the new pieces of the program this year that we’re really excited about, Keely brought in the Hunger Network to partner with.” McConnell said. “If a buyer purchases beef or a hog during the Jr. Fair Sales, which take place on Thursday and Friday, 60% of that live weight goes to our total for Stock the Trailer, but then the Hunger Network is going to pay for the processing and the meat will go to Village Meats to be processed and it will be distributed out to the 12 food pantries.”
Keely Warden, the Executive Director of Christ’s Table, says they serve around 1,500 meals a week at the Table between patrons coming in and their homebound meal service.
She says Stock the Trailer comes at one of the best and busiest times for the Table due to kids being home for summer break.
“The comradery between the kids and the people that are coming through the door, it’s just great.” Warden said. “To be able to do this year after year and know that we can count on this food coming in each year and also know that we’re helping the kids and we want to win this competition!”
If you can’t make it out to the Fair, you can still drop your donations off at Christ’s Table, located at 28 South 6th St.
Just make sure you say that you want your donation to go towards the Stock the Trailer competition and they will handle the rest.
