Colorful Steps Toward Awareness: Annual Walk Celebrates Community and Recovery

ZANESVILLE, OH- Families of all ages came out for a colorful cause this weekend in Muskingum County.
The third annual “Color Waddle Walk or Run,” hosted by Drug Free Muskingum, took place at the Muskingum County Fairgrounds. This year’s theme — “Sweet Adventure” — featured candy-themed fun, laughter, and community support, all in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month.
“It’s about bringing the community together and having all of the families together, seeing the laughter and just everybody together,” said Monica Batteiger, Co-founder of Drug Free Muskingum and Family Health Advocate.
More than 200 people pre-registered for the event, which included strollers, pets, and participants of all ages. Organizers say the walk is not about racing, it’s about raising awareness.
“My favorite part is bringing people together, you know this is an event for recovery, recovery and community together is definitely my favorite thing to see,” said Batteiger.
The walk is designed to promote mental health awareness and break the stigma around mental illness while offering a fun and family friendly experience. The Color Waddle Walk or Run will return next May at the Muskingum County Fairgrounds. For updates, visit the Drug Free Muskingum Facebook page.
