Community Baby Shower Educates Local Mothers

17 new moms got the opportunity to prepare for their bundles of joy today at the Mid-East Career and Technology Center.
The Early Childhood Education program hosted their 5th annual Community Baby Shower. The event included sessions about car seat safety, baby care, immunizations, and more. Expectant mother Alyssa Bates said that she learned things she wouldn’t have without today’s event.
“Being new moms, you’re doctors and stuff don’t really, they don’t make sure you know everything,” said Bates. “They don’t give you a heads up ‘Hey this is what you’ll need to know’ so you just get thrown into it and hope your family can help you.”
Early Childhood Education Instructor Katie Lucas said the event is important, not only for the mothers that come to the baby shower, but for her students as well.
“My high school students gain a lot of information about what resources are out there and also how we are a part of a community so we need to reach out to those in our community and help them out, ” said Lucas.
Lucas would like to thank the agencies that supported the baby shower by coming to offer information and those who donated door prizes that were given to the expectant mothers free of charge.
