ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Local government agencies, non-profits, healthcare providers, and businesses have been meeting to make Muskingum’s quality of life better.

The Healthier Muskingum County Network held over 700 surveys in 2016 for the Community Health Assessment. Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department’s Community Health Planner Kylie Jones says they asked questions on physical and mental health, housing, safety, lifestyle choices, and more.

The survey ended in January 2017 and for the past few months have been meeting to study the data and then prioritize the challenges the community faces.

“We prioritized access to care and we developed those strategies,” Jones said. “The other meetings consisted of food insecurity, mental health and addiction, and education. So those will be the things we focus on for the next three to five years in our Community Health Improvement Plan.”

Today the meeting discussed the communities access to care and how to make that access better. Jones said the group voted on what strategies they wanted to follow and next they’ll need to tally the votes.

“So all of the strategies we’ve talked about over the last two months will be in our Community Health Improvement Plan and that will be coming out at the end of August and we will be posting that on our website along with our Community Health Assessment,” said Jones.
