SOUTH ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The South Zanesville Fire Department and the Amrou Grotto will be holding their monthly meat raffle, just in time for the holidays.

Fire Chief Russell Taylor and Amrou Grotto Monarch-Elect John W. Evans Sr. explained what attendees can expect and how the proceeds make their ways back into the community.

“It’s this Saturday,” Taylor said. “Doors open at 6 O’clock, the event starts at 7. We’re going to have turkeys, we’ll have hams, anything that you’ll need for Thanksgiving dinner or Christmas dinner, we will have it up for raffle. The admission to get in the door is $5 bucks. We charge $5 bucks and that money goes towards the charities. Once you pay the $5 dollars you’ll get a table, wherever you want to sit. And then when the games start, there’s 11 games and each game averages $2 dollars to $3 dollars a game.”

More than $2,000 dollars worth of a variety of fresh seafood and meats have been donated by local-grocer Campbells-Foodland. And any unopened, brand-new toy worth at least $5 dollars will be accepted as admission.

“Our main charity is with the Doctor Smiles,” Evans said. “We take care of the dental work with special needs kids and adults. The toys for admission will go towards kids in the community that doesn’t have enough… that isn’t getting nothing or anything for Christmas and helps out to put smiles on their face, come Christmas morning and they’re not feeling left out and everything.”

Food and drinks will be available for purchase during the event and coolers are welcome to store and transport your winnings. The fire department’s share of the proceeds will go toward purchasing Christmas candy for the kids in the community.

The event will take place inside the Amrou Grotto, located at Prophets Park, 2560 Old River Road, Zanesville.
