Community Members Provide X-Ray Machine to Those in Need in Haiti

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Local members of the Haitian Christian Outreach spoke at the Noon Rotary Club Meeting about a current service project.
About five years ago Becky Joseph traveled to Peredo Haiti on a medical mission trip and discovered the medical team there was wanting to better their facility for the small village. Joseph said they looked for different opportunities to provide them with a digital x-ray machine.
“We take x-rays for granted here in the Western World but when you present to a facility and you have no way to look outside the body or inside the body, it really ties your hands behind your back to be able to do adequate treatment,” Joseph said.
With the help of the Zanesville Daybreak Rotary, Noon Rotary, and an anonymous donation they were able to provide the machine. Megan Schreiber said the nearest x-ray machine to Peredo is 45 minutes away and it only works 20% of the time.
“For a healthcare provider who has a patient in front of them obviously needing assistance, not being able to see inside the body to treat them appropriately, it leaves you feeling unsatisfied with the care that you’re giving,” Schreiber said.
The x-ray machine arrived at the facility on Tuesday, March 5th and they used it on a patient for the first time on Friday, March 8th. If you are interested in learning more about the Haitian Christian Outreach, head to their website.
