Congressman Bill Johnson on preventing school shootings
ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Ohio Republican U.S. Congressman Bill Johnson said there are multiple things needing to be done to prevent school shootings and mass shootings in general.
Congressman Johnson said as a parent and a grandparent his heartbreaks for the victims and their families in Parkland and for all of the shootings. He said mental health plays a monumental role in shootings.
“We’ve got to identify the individual and help them get the mental health treatment that they need to stop them from doing those kinds of things. But we need to keep guns out of the hands of people that have mental health issues, that should not have access to a fire arm,” said Congressman Johnson.
Congressman Johnson said the government needs to solve the problem of school shootings without violating the second amendment.
“Taking away guns from law-abiding citizens is not going to solve this problem. Just look at Paris. A couple of years ago on New Years Eve when the rampage through that concert venue there and how many people were killed. Where did they get their guns from because Paris, France doesn’t allow private ownership of firearms the bad guys, who are mentally deranged to do this kind of thing they’re not going to follow the law,” said Congressman Johnson.
Congressman Johnson said there has been and will continue to be funding for mental health treatments to get people the help they need before they hurt themselves or others.
