Congressman Tiberi in Zanesville

12th District Representative Pat Tiberi visited Zanesville Monday.

Tiberi is running for re-election for the new 12th Congressional District which now includes Zanesville, and most of Southern Muskingum County.

Tiberi stopped by the W-H-I-Z studios today, and spoke to us about many topics, including jobs.

He said Congress has to work together in order to keep jobs to the area.

"You know, it’s something the Governor talks a lot about, it’s something the President talks a lot about, it’s something more that we have to do in Congress to secure a brighter future, and part of what we do, quite frankly, in Congress that can either hurt that or help that," said Tiberi.

Tiberi has served as a Congressman since 2000 and also serves on the House Ways and Means Committee which has jurisdiction over tax issues, Medicare and Medicaid.

He said issues facing the healthcare system have to be fixed.

"Doing nothing is not an option," added Tiberi.  "Some folks would say that we can’t touch Medicare, we can’t touch Social Security, we can’t touch Medicaid, not doing anything, what it ends up doing, is it bankrupts the system. "

Back in December, House Bill 369 laid out new congressional district boundaries in Ohio.

Tiberi said that those new districts will go into effect in January, 2013.
