Cornish Selected to Senior Citizen Hall of Fame
This week nine Ohioans will take their place in the Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame in Columbus.
One of those being honored is Guernsey County’s Pauline Gray Cornish. Cornish is considered a trailblazer by many in her community as she’s led efforts to not only restore and preserve important historical landmarks, but make her community a hub for heritage tourism.
In 1998 she spurred efforts to restore the Kennedy Stone House, at Salt Fork State Park. The structure built in 1837 by Benjamin Kennedy was home to many of his descendants until 1960.
During the summer’s the Stone House welcomes as many as 10,000 visitors.
In 2004, Ohio State Parks honored Cornish with the Chiefs Award for her efforts to restore and revitalize an important part of Salt Fork State Park.
The Hall of Fame induction will be held at the Ohio Statehouse on Thursday. The Hall honors individuals age 60 and older who are native born Ohioans or who have been Ohio residents for at least 10 years.
