Counterfeit Money Making it’s way into the City
Call it alarming and drastic, fake money making is its way around Zanesville.
According to Zanesville Police Department, there has been two counterfeit one-hundred dollar bills passed here so far this week; this out of what’s said to be 1000 bills in general. One was said to be used at a local restaurant and the other at a grocery store. ZPD Chief Kenneth Miller tells us that during this time of the year we could see an increase.
“With the holiday shopping season coming up us, i’m sure there several more their going to pass so we wanted to get it out there for the retailers and public that these bills are out there. When this shopping season starts picks up and with the hustle and bustle, you take a quick glance they look real. Unless they actually stop and examine it and read whats on the front of that $100 bill,” said Miller.
Miller tells us that it’s very important to pay close attention to the bills especially when people use big bills to pay for small items. He also explains the difference between an authentic 100 dollar bill and a counterfeit one.
“The fake 100 dollar bills are actually clearly marked on the front of them with ‘Motion Picture Use Only’ but it’s placed on the 100 hundred dollar bill where there’s normally other writing on so it’s easily over looked. Then also, on the back it stays ‘Motion Picture Use Only,” said Miller.
If you or someone you know comes across one, you are encouraged to contact ZDP.
