County Commissioners discuss Fairgrounds Proposal for Repairment

MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio- The Muskingum County County Commissioners met this morning to review a proposal given about the Muskingum County Fairgrounds.

The fair will be here before you know it. The coliseum building has been in use since 1948 and has needed some repairs over the years. Two members from the Muskingum County Board met with the commissioners to discuss a potential grant to go towards a few arising issues.

“As we mentioned, the posts need to be replaced and then there is a concrete wall on the northeast corner that’s starting to cave in and we want to get those replaced before the damage gets too bad and causes too much more problems with the building,” Muskingum County Fairgrounds Board President Dave Kreis said.

Members are always keeping up with the building and taking precautions to ensure safety. The board has received other grants to make repairs and improvements on projects such as the chicken barn, art hall, shop, and restrooms. Security cameras have also been added to the fairgrounds. With as much usage the coliseum gets, the board is hoping to repair it before the fair.

“The building is being used as much as it is. There are weddings in there. The circus comes there, several cattle shows throughout the year are there and our 4H, community and junior fair community uses that as well,” Muskingum County Fairgrounds Board Treasurer John Graham said.

This year is the fair’s 175th anniversary. The committee is doing everything to make the event special this year. The fair begins August 15.
