County Commissioners Discuss Future Plans for the Lorena Sternwheeler

County Commissioners Meet To Discuss The Lorena

MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio- The Captain of the Lorena Sternwheeler met with the County Commissioners Office today to discuss the details of the popular tourist attraction.

The Lorena Sternwheeler is expected to start back up for residents and tourists this June, however, issues like needing more crew members and a set schedule may be holding that back.

“One of the challenges identified is a crew and the need for crew. There’s a lot that goes into it that most people don’t recognize when you’re just cruising down the Muskingum, but it was a time today for us to just kind of take note of who is responsible for what and how we can better work together now and in the future,” Mollie Crooks, County Commissioner President stated.

During the meeting, Captain Bill Page, addressed the need for more experienced crew members to operate certain positions. He said it is vital that this is done so the attraction can provide a safe and stable environment.

Crooks continued to talk about the roles for each department and when the community can expect a set schedule for the Lorena.

“The schedule may be adjusted. We’re in the process of having the captain review that schedule and then communicate with the CVB so I would hope that by early mid March that the schedule would be finalized and we can communicate that because I know people are going to want to start making their plans for the summer,” Mollie said.
