County Commissioners Held Bid Opening for Updated Windows at Avondale Youth Center

MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio- The County Commissioners office held an open bid meeting today that discussed new windows for the Avondale Youth Center.
There was one company out of Kansas, Missouri who placed a bid for over $500,000 to complete the project, however, it was rejected.
County commissioners’ compliance officer for the ARPA funds, Eric Reed, said they constructed a bid of about $200,000 to complete the project so now they would have to go back and re-work the estimated cost.
“So you have 10 percent allowance on your bid or estimate and with it being around $200,000 and the bid company that went well over $500,000, we have to move to reject that because that’s well out of the range of acceptable bids financially, but we’ll re-evaluate the scope of work and we can re-evaluate it as we move forward,” Reed stated.
Reed talked about how it’s been difficult to bring in local companies to complete the work due to the recent issues with supply and demand.
During the meeting they talked about taking a different approach to allow those local companies to possibly make a bid.
“There’s three buildings at the facility. There’s roughly 75 windows give or take. We’re going to consider maybe just doing one of the buildings, maybe the main building and not the gym right now or we’re going to look at all opinions or do it over a phase period,” Reed said. “Anything we can do to reduce cost and fit where we can get some local folks in here to help us complete the job.”
There are certain codes that the engineers have to meet being that it is a children’s home, but they also plan to open bids for a new ventilation system next.
