Courthouse to Shine Bright for the Holidays

The Muskingum County Courthouse has been transformed into a Christmas wonderland for the holiday season.

As a favorite community tradition, the 22nd annual Lighting of the Courthouse is expected to attract hundreds of residents Wednesday evening. Muskingum County Director of Information Services, Dan Long, said the grand building will be decked out in more lights this year than ever before, as they added 10 new fixtures to accent the bell tower.

“As far as the courthouse goes we have 75 fixtures, it’s a mix of spotlights and linear lights, they range from one foot long to four feet long, RGB’s and RGBW lights, and those are all controlled from inside the courthouse,” Long said.

As part of the Miracle on Main Street celebration, the illuminating light and music show kicks off at 6:30 p.m. in front of the courthouse. Although Wednesday’s festivities end at 9, Long said area residents are invited to come down and see the lights dance all season long.

“Every night until after the first of January, I think it’s January 4th, so they’ll be able to see it from 6 until 9 every night,” Long said.

The lighting of the courthouse is great event for the entire family, there will be live musical performances, as well as, an appearance from Kris Kringle himself. Again, if you miss Wednesday’s display, the courthouse will light up every night from 6 until 9 p.m. through January 4.
