The Courthouse will be going green for Mitochondrial Disease

Bet On Baylee

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Courthouse will be shining bright this weekend.

September 16th through the 22nd is Mitochondrial Disease Awareness Week and the Courthouse is going green on Sunday and Monday night on behalf of Baylee Thompson, a local girl living with Mitochondrial Disease. Sheriff Matt Lutz said he’s honored to be able to support people in the community.

“You know, it’s a lot of fun for me to get out and do these things and anytime that I’m working with people that I know and friends with and then on the back end of it, you get to raise money to help the long term effects,” explained Sheriff Lutz. “I think it’s just a good cause and so, we try to do all that we can do.”

Baylee’s mother, Jody Thompson said they had their final Bet on Baylee Fundraiser because they were able to reach their goal of raising $100,000 for Mitochondrial Disease research. She said she is grateful that the County Commissioners wholeheartedly got behind the idea of lighting the Courthouse green.

“It just empowers me to know that what we do everyday, you know, other people are taking that step, even if it’s for one day.” Thompson explained, “one day can affect thousands of people because thousands of people live here in Muskingum County.

Thompson said Baylee is doing wonderful and will be attending her first homecoming next week at Crooksville High School. For more information about Mitochondrial Disease, you can visit umdf.org.
