Craft Brew Brought to Zanesville
If you want to find a unique place to drink a beer, you do not have to go any further than Zanesville. Weasel Boy Brewery opened in 2007 and gave Zanesville an Award Winning Brewery. In just 3 years, it has gained a big following and is making more beer like the Wiesel Junge Kolsch due this Summer. Click the video link on the left to watch the full story.
The name Weasel Boy comes from the owners Jay and Lori Wince raising ferrets. The beer recipes come from months of preparation and the idea, from a lack of area craft breweries.
"Beyond Columbus there wasn’t much in the area and we home brewed quit frequently for almost 15 years before we started this and we just decided that the time was right," said Jay Wince, Owner/ Head Brewer.
Their beer is made from hops, water, yeast and barley.
"Typically about a three week process here at Weasel Boy. Our product is unpasteurized, unfiltered so it is about as fresh and as true as you can get in craft beer," answered Wince.
You can quote, " wet your whistle with a Weasel" Tuesday through Saturday with 6 craft beers on tap.
"All the flavors come from the different types of malted barley we use and the different varieties of hops we use . They all impart different flavors, different colors, different aromas," said Wince.
Top sellers are the Ornery Otter Blonde Ale and the Plaid Ferret Scottish Ale. Weasel Boy does not bottle their beers so you can sit down and enjoy one there or take one home with you in a growler. You could fill the growler with the Stout that won at the World’s Largest Commercial Beer Competition.
"We were fortunate enough to win a bronze medal for our Russian Imperial Stout this past September which is a really big deal. It is kind of like winning an Oscar," said Wince.
The atmosphere though is casual with no television and furniture.
"We kind of wanted it to be a combination of pub, living room, and coffee shop. We wanted it comfy and cozy. We wanted furniture," says Wince.
The beer is also sold at 15 restaurants within an hour of the area.
"Really the people aspect has been one of the best. I think we felt that going in we would experience that to some degree because of the craft beer community," said Wince.
They did not realize people would end up taking their merchandise around the world.
Weasel Boy also offers live music on Saturday nights. For a list of events visit: http://www.weaselboybrewing.com/wb/.
