Crafting the Perfect Super Bowl Charcuterie Board
CAMBRIDGE, OH – Super Bowl Sunday is just around the corner, and that means one thing: it’s time to get ready for those game day snacks. WHIZ reporters Aniyah Hart and Shylin Costello took a trip to Guernsey County to get the inside scoop on a great way to elevate your Super Bowl party.
The Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs are going to the Super Bowl this weekend and while the game is the main event, the food is just as important. Whether you’re rooting for the Eagles, the Chiefs, or just watching for the commercials, a great game day snack is a must and what better way to impress your guests than an amazing charcuterie board? We visited the Guernsey County library for a charcuterie class and in this class, we learned how to build the ultimate board with meats, cheeses, vegetables, and fruits, just in time for kickoff.
The Ohio State Extension held a hands-on class diving into all thing’s charcuterie—from the essential ingredients to the art of arranging the perfect board. Attendees learned the fundamentals of crafting visually stunning and delicious spreads, making it a feast for both the eyes and the taste buds.
“A charcuterie board is just a way to assemble food in a visually pleasing manner. A lot of variety and range so that everyone has the salty, sweet, and smokey. You know the different ranges of flavors.” Caitlin Matthews-Smith, the Guernsey County OSU Extension Educator said.
Charcuterie boards have skyrocketed in popularity over the past few years, thanks to social media. Platforms like Instagram and TikTok have turned them into an art form, inspiring people to experiment with creative ingredients, and eye-catching designs.
“I think that charcuteries have really taken off because we live in a fast-paced society. We’re always on the go and with a nice charcuterie board it’s an experience. You take the time to put it together and people put it together for you know, intimate groups, weddings, book clubs, all sorts of different reasons and I think you sit there and enjoy the meal with those who are around you and I think just that mindfulness taking the time to slow down and just enjoy good food together. I think that’s why it’s really picked up.” Matthews-Smith said.
Charcuterie boards don’t have to be boring, adding a theme can take them to the next level. Whether it’s a game day spread packed with fan-favorite snacks or a festive setup for any occasion, themed boards help set the tone and make any gathering more memorable.
“We did a couple different types of charcuterie boards today we did a Valentines dessert themed. We had the typical classic charcuterie board and then we did a little bit of a Super Bowl themed. There are different options. We did pretzels, white cheddar popcorn, tortilla chips with queso, but you could also do like popcorn chicken you could do boneless wings sliders, and then you could even do a cheese ball in the shape of a football.” Matthews-Smith said.
So, if you’re looking to step up your snack game this Super Bowl Sunday, now you know how to build the ultimate board, and trust us, it’ll be the MVP of your party spread. Now there’s only one question left, who’s going to win the big game? You can tune in to Fox 5 at 6:30 pm to watch the Eagles play the Chiefs.
