Creating an Image

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – When statewide events take place that include all of Ohio’s 88 counties, the county flag is often the image that represents the community.
The Muskingum County Commissioners received designs for a new county flag from a Nashport resident that looks to freshen the way the county is seen.
“The gray is for Zane Grey. And I did the Y for the Y-Bridge, the black Y. And I did the blue for the Zanesville college… Zane State. And I did the red triangle for Ohio because red is our color. And I did the white like triangle for the Lorena, the boat. And I did the black circle for the like the coal mines,” Local Resident Camren Zimmerman said.
Zimmerman graduated from the Mid-East Career and Technology Centers Digital Media program in 2024. He has an affinity for geography and he can point out every nation on the globe as well as correlate the flag that country has chosen as their official emblem.
“I seen that this person, his name was Caleb Silvia and he wanted to change the flag in 2023,” Zimmerman said. “And I was just like… I was researching stuff about it and I was like… never thought of trying to change the flag. And I was like, maybe I should try to do that. I would be very glad if they decide to change the flag to mine. And I would be very happy if they did that.”
Zimmerman submitted two designs for the commissioners to consider as they look into the process of getting a new flag registered and recognized by the State of Ohio.
