Crop Walk for Hunger

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – There are many organizations around the world that have been established to lick the issue of hunger.
Locally, there are multiple organizations that hold fundraising events, which help fulfill that basic need. One such upcoming event is the annual Crop Walk.
“The Crop Walk began in Muskingum County. It is sponsored through Church World Service, nationwide. And in Muskingum County it began in the 1960s sponsored by Muskingum Area Association of Churches. That organization still is present here in Muskingum County and continuing to do the Crop Walk annually. So we partner with Church World Services, who then sponsors us through materials and those types of things to have the Crop Walk here in Muskingum County,” Crop Walk Co-Organizer Christina McCandlish said.
The Crop Walk raises funds not only for hunger programs around the world but assists local nonprofits like Christ’s Table and the Salvation Army Zanesville Corps.
“We’re looking for teams,” McCandlish said. “Generally, it’s teams of walkers. Churches, 4-H groups, youth groups, scout groups and we will have some games set up behind the Rogge Pavilion, yard games, cornhole, things like that for people to participate in. We’ll have some snacks and music and they can be able to walk the trail through the Crop Walk. We’re going to have the trail, a route through the trail but then we’ll also have a route that stays here on the concrete, so that if anyone doesn’t want to walk the gravel or the hills, then they still have that opportunity.”
This year’s Crop Walk will take place 1:30 p.m. Sunday, at the Rogge Pavilion, along the Collegial Woods Trail behind the Ohio University Zanesville campus. For more information you can visit the event’s Facebook page.
