Cub Scouts are now accepting new members

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Cub Scouts throughout the country are accepting new members.
Boys in 1st through 5th grade can join the Cub Scouts. Over the next three weeks, the Cub Scouts will be giving out fliers to the local elementary schools to give the kids and their parents more information about the Cub Scouts.
“We touch base with all area schools,” said Field Director Jeff Pickett. “We talk with the principal, the secretaries, and we make appointments to go in and get the kids excited about scouting. We let them know the fun activities that they can participate in.”
The Cub Scouts meet three to four times a month. There are several age appropriate activities that parents can do with their sons. Pickett said the Cub Scouts provide educational experiences for kids. He said they try to introduce a new activity at the first meeting of the year.
“One of the things we try to do every year is to come up with a cool craft for the kids to do,” said Pickett. “It kind of sets that hook to get them to come and become part of the scouting program. This year we’re doing a stomp rocket. It’s a 2-liter bottle, along with a piece of hose and they build that on their very first night, and they get to launch it.”
Pickett said this is a fun and unique experience for the kids. The stomp rocket that each kid builds will be theirs to use as often as they like.
