Cubs even World Series with game two victory

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Reigning National League Cy Young winner Jake Arrieta tossed 5 2/3 innings of shutout baseball to help the Chicago Cubs defeat the Cleveland Indians, 5-1, and even the World Series at one game apiece.
Arrieta struck out six and allowed just two hits and one earned run to pick up the win. Cleveland starter Trevor Bauer was less effective, giving up six hits and a pair of earned runs in just 3 2/3 innings of work.
Anthony Rizzo jumped on Bauer in the top of the first with an RBI double plating Kris Bryant. The Cubs struck again in the third with designated hitter Kyle Schwarber scoring Rizzo on a single to center field.
Chicago blew the game open with three runs in the fifth. Ben Zobrist scored Rizzo on a triple, Schwarber brought Zobrist home on another single and Addison Russell drew a bases-loaded walk that scored Schwarber.
Jason Kipnis scored the Indians’ lone run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth. Former Cincinnati Red Aroldis Chapman earned his first World Series save with 1 1/3 innings of no-hit work to close out the contest.
Following an off day Thursday, the series shifts to Wrigley Field for game 3 Friday night. Josh Tomlin will start for the Indians opposite Chicago’s Kyle Hendricks.
Game 1 winner Corey Kluber is expected to start game 4 on Saturday versus Chicago’s John Lackey. Kluber tossed six scoreless innings Tuesday night, striking out a record-setting eight batters in his first three innings.
